![]() I-Ride Team News
Matthew Bottrill, James Cambridge and Chris Garner took part in Sleaford Wheelers 25mile time trial at the weekend, held in warm put very windy conditions meaning times for the course would be slow for most riders. James Cambridge was the first rider home for the I-Ride team with a time of 57.09 (9th on the day) proving how hard it was out there. But it had been a good week for Cambridge with a win in a road race. Next came Chris Garner who has also been showing some promise in recent weeks. After taking 3rd at Mallory park road race in the week, Garner came home with a time of 57.13 for 11th place.
Last man to start was Bottrill who had come in determined mood. With a very good prize list on offer and an even bigger prize for breaking the course record Bottrill set about the task in hand. Leaving the starting area at 9.40am Bottrill powered his Argon 18 E-114 time machine to the half way point in a time of 26.58, it looked touch and go for Bottrill to break the previous course record of 52.44 but this had been the hardest section on the course!! Hitting speeds of 37mph on the return leg Bottrill stopped the clock in a time 51.17 to take a 3min5sec win and even more impressive Bottrill took 1min25sec of the previous course record. Bottrill said "that hurt like hell but I really wanted that course record but never expected to beat it by this much. The Bike I'm riding played a big part in winning and has done all season. Result 1st Matthew Bottrill 51.17(course and event record) 2nd James Coleman, Cherry Valley Rt 54.22 3rd Matthew Sincliar, Leicestershire Rc 54.44 9th James Cambridge 57.09 11th Chris Garner 57.13 Chris Garner ( from are unsponsored team) takes us through his race held at Mallory Park whilst aboard his Argon 18 Gallium. "3rd place at Mallory again last night (1st 3rd cat) this time from a group of 6. Break went at half distance with 4 of us working well, 2 riders bridged over to us with 5 laps to go. One of the 2 metaltek/Cycle premier riders clipped off the front with 2km to go and nobody responded leaving it for a sprint between the 5 of us. Got in an early move with Jimmy that looked certain to stay away but everyone had twigged it was a decent size group with some good riders in so we got pulled back". Chris Team I-Ride take medal in National 3up Sunday morning saw two team's taking part in the men's national team trial on Sunday morning, the event was held at Scotch Corner with 70 teams facing a very technical 33 mile circuit. With the finest rider's in the country consisting of both Olympic and World Champion's the I-Ride team's would be up against it. However, neither team disappointed. First team to leave were James Cambridge, Scott Walker and team captain Geoff Platts who has previously won the event and also collected the bronze medal in the last two consecutive years. This time Platt's decided to captain the two youngster's in a time of 1.12.52 to give them 7th place on the day. Platts added" That went well today, we were all evenly matched but probably could have done with a few more rides together. Then came the turn of Matthew Bottrill, Adam Duggleby and Julian Ramsbottom who were one of the favorites to take the win, all have won the event in the past. Starting at 9.15am Bottrill lead the team down the start at 32mph, Duggleby was up next with Rambo following. At the first check the news was not good with team Sigma sport having a 10 second advantage. Knowing they were saving there best effort for the closing miles the team were not too worried, but then disaster struck with Rambo losing his leg's!!!?? Not literally, but he was starting to blow so Bottrill and Duggleby did a great job of nursing the suffering Rambo home, they eventually stopped the clock at 1.07.42 only 10 seconds behind the Sigma sport team. Had Rambo's leg's not given out the result could have easily been reversed. But they were not home and dry just yet, Professional cycling team Raleigh were still to finish but luckily they could not match the I-Ride team's time. They didn't have to wait long before Edd Clancy, Andy Tennant & Steve Burke of Motor point Rt finished with a great time of 1.06.13 to give them the gold medal. To lose to three Olympic & World Champions is not too bad a result after all. But both Bottrill and Duggleby wonder how close they could have got had the team been 3 strong. We will have to wait to next year now to find out.
