![]() I-Ride Team News
Saturday June 5th, the country's finest riders took part in the Blue ribbon event of time trialling: the men's National 25 championships held at Bourbridge in Yorkshire. 150 riders would take part in the blistering dry heat on the out and back course. The first I-Ride rider was Brett Harwood who suffered with the heat and finished 70th in a time of 57.34. Next to start should have been Geoff Platts, but the day before the event Geoff was hit with the news of his mum passing away. Our thoughts go out to Geoff and his family at this very sad time. Then came the turn of Adam Duggleby who has been in terrific form over the last few weeks winning the Peterborough cc road race last weekend (see below report), Duggleby came home in 29th in a time of 54.55, just proving how hard the conditions were. Julian Ramsbottom came home next with a time of 56.19 for 48th. Finally the last of the riders got underway, with the likes of Michael Hutchinson, Mark Holton, Wouter Sybrandy, Ben Instone and James Wall, it was going to be a tough test for Bottrill, who has never been one for racing in hot temperatures!! Leaving the start gate at 16:36 Bottrill hit the road and reached the first time check in 25.45 to put him into 2nd spot, just 13 seconds behind Mark Holton of Drag2zero, with just Hutchinson to arrive, who arrived 50 seconds up. On the harder return leg Bottrill started to really suffer and even contemplate climbing off his bike as he was suffering so much!! Slipping further behind Holton, Bottrill stopped the clock at 51.49 to Holton's 51.21, Hutchinson then flashed by the time keeper in a time of 49.34. Once Bottrill had come round we caught up with him "That hurt so much today I felt terrible and really did not think I was going to get a medal, but Peter Lavine and Chris Tennison were giving me time checks and some much needed encouragement at the side of the road. If it had not have been for them I would have probably collapsed at the side of the road!! I also made a big mistake of not carrying a bottle". Finally Bottrill thanked www.cyclepowermetres.com who have given him some great ideas on using a power meter, from this moment on his results can only get better, so be sure to check their website out.
