![]() EPS - Electronic Power Shift
Limited Stock Arriving Spring 2012.
High-end technical solutions, create care for details and the extensive use of carbon fibre make Super Record® EPS the technological dream of every cyclist. EPS: an obstacle course, started 20 years ago, tackled by people with a great vision for the future, a large heart and an incomparable passion for their work and the world of cycling. All too often the launch of a product on the market is not stopped by errors in design or false qualitative steps, but more often by the difficulty in finding technological solutions that satisfy the needs and ideas that emerge from the minds of the engineers in the Campagnolo research and development department. The history of the Campagnolo electronic drivetrain, that now takes the name of Campagnolo EPS (Electronic Power Shift), is a 6 step trip, 6 stages of design each of which corresponds to great innovation, great change of direction, and great challenges, but most of all they each represent a ring in the DNA of the current EPS, making it a product that has a soul, created by people with a soul.
DTI, Digital Tech Intelligence is housed inside the Power Unit and it continuously monitors the signals that arrive from all the EPS components, thus managing their operation. The main functions of the DTI are: • controlling and managing the battery pack • enabling and monitoring the rear derailleur and derailleur • signalling any faults through the RGB LED • communicating with the interface • activating the acoustic buzzer Multi Shifting: Thanks to the electronic evolution of the Multi-shifting technology which is already used in the mechanical units, it is possible to obtain multi shifting with 11 gear-cogs.
Thanks to the use of a sophisticated electronic system, by keeping levers 2 or 3 pressed down it is possible to continuously change gear upward or downward, by up to 11 sprockets with a single action of the levers. There are no longer any limits to Multi-shifting and the choice is at the fingertips of the cyclist. On Board Diagnostics: The EPS system is capable of automatically detecting a whole range of malfunctions. If a malfunction is detected, the EPS system turns on an RGB led located on the power unit. Depending on the area where the malfunction has been detected the led takes on different colour. Being that in some situations the cause of the malfunction making the led light up on the power unit may be temporary, a number of operations are recommended to the end user depending on the colour of the light that appears on the PowerUnit. Zero Settings: The procedures to reset the rear derailleur and derailleur to zero are essential for the system to function. These procedures allow the system to learn the reference positions of the chain on the sprockets and chainrings, which will be used to calculate the positions that need to be used in all operating conditions. During the resetting to zero phase the movements of the rear derailleur and derailleur occur continuously, and not through set movements as during adjustment, and they depend on the pressure time of levers 2 and 3. The position can be changed by even just a hundredth. Automatic Correction: Compared to the traditional mechanical derailleur that could be adjusted with micro displacements made by acting on the levers manually, the EPS derailleur is equipped with a very sophisticated electronic AUTOMATIC POSITION CORRECTION system.
The DTI (Digital Tech Intelligence) receives impulses from the controls through the interface that communicates with the sensor placed inside the derailleur, which indicates its position at all times. Depending on the sprocket that has been selected with the controls, the EPS re-positions the derailleur to optimise its position with respect to the chain. This allows chain crossovers that are not optimal in traditional systems. It performs 2 corrections upward and downward. ![]() Ride Back Home Function: The uncoupling mechanism of the rear derailleur is useful if the battery runs out on the road. If this happens, there is a procedure called RIDE BACK HOME that allows you to manually «uncouple» the rear derailleur to position it on the required sprocket.
Once you are back home remember to couple the rear derailleur back on and charge the battery.
