EPS: an obstacle course, started 20 years ago, tackled by people with a great vision for the future, a large heart and an incomparable passion for their work and the world of cycling.

All too often the launch of a product on the market is not stopped by errors in design or false qualitative steps, but more often by the difficulty in finding technological solutions that satisfy the needs and ideas that emerge from the minds of the engineers in the Campagnolo research and development department.

The history of the Campagnolo electronic drivetrain, that now takes the name of Campagnolo EPS (Electronic Power Shift), is a 6 step trip, 6 stages of design each of which corresponds to great innovation, great change of direction, and great challenges, but most of all they each represent a ring in the DNA of the current EPS, making it a product that has a soul, created by people with a soul.

Click Feeling Click image to view video
Click Feeling: The levers, even though they are not mechanical, manage to simulate the classic Campagnolo Click Feeling thanks to the application of MultiDometechnology.
When your fingers press the lever it pushes a sensor composed of various metal layers that create the sensation of a mechanical action.

DTI, Digital Tech Intelligence is housed inside the Power Unit and it continuously monitors the signals that arrive from all the EPS components, thus managing their operation.

The main functions of the DTI are:
• controlling and managing the battery pack
• enabling and monitoring the rear derailleur and derailleur
• signalling any faults through the RGB LED
• communicating with the interface
• activating the acoustic buzzer

multi-shifting_thumbClick image to view video
Multi Shifting: Thanks to the electronic evolution of the Multi-shifting technology which is already used in the mechanical units, it is possible to obtain multi shifting with 11 gear-cogs.
Thanks to the use of a sophisticated electronic system, by keeping levers 2 or 3 pressed down it is possible to continuously change gear upward or downward, by up to 11 sprockets with a single action of the levers.

There are no longer any limits to Multi-shifting and the choice is at the fingertips of the cyclist.

on-boad-diagnostic2_thumb
On Board Diagnostics: The EPS system is capable of automatically detecting a whole range of malfunctions. If a malfunction is detected, the EPS system turns on an RGB led located on the power unit. Depending on the area where the malfunction has been detected the led takes on different colour. Being that in some situations the cause of the malfunction making the led light up on the power unit may be temporary, a number of operations are recommended to the end user depending on the colour of the light that appears on the PowerUnit.

zero-setting-front_thumbClick image to view video
Zero Settings: The procedures to reset the rear derailleur and derailleur to zero are essential for the system to function.
These procedures allow the system to learn the reference positions of the chain on the sprockets and chainrings, which will be used to calculate the positions that need to be used in all operating conditions.

During the resetting to zero phase the movements of the rear derailleur and derailleur occur continuously, and not through set movements as during adjustment, and they depend on the pressure time of levers 2 and 3.

The position can be changed by even just a hundredth.

auto-corretction_thumb
Automatic Correction: Compared to the traditional mechanical derailleur that could be adjusted with micro displacements made by acting on the levers manually, the EPS derailleur is equipped with a very sophisticated electronic AUTOMATIC POSITION CORRECTION system.

The DTI (Digital Tech Intelligence) receives impulses from the controls through the interface that communicates with the sensor placed inside the derailleur, which indicates its position at all times.
Depending on the sprocket that has been selected with the controls, the EPS re-positions the derailleur to optimise its position with respect to the chain.

This allows chain crossovers that are not optimal in traditional systems. It performs 2 corrections upward and downward.

Ride-back-home
Ride Back Home Function: The uncoupling mechanism of the rear derailleur is useful if the battery runs out on the road. If this happens, there is a procedure called RIDE BACK HOME that allows you to manually «uncouple» the rear derailleur to position it on the required sprocket.
Once you are back home remember to couple the rear derailleur back on and charge the battery.

one-lever-one-action_thumb
One Lever, One Action: The EPS system CONTROL levers are positioned and act according to the same logic as Campagnolo mechanical gear levers.

Lever 1 brake
Lever 2 up-shifting
Lever 3 down-shifting

Just like the mechanical version, the levers are natural and intuitive to use. Activating the levers reproduces and follows the movement of the chain on the sprockets.
For example, lever 2 of the right Ergopower, which is pressed from right to left, moves the rear derailleur and makes chain shift up by one sprocket from right to left, copying the exact movement.

e2ergonomy_thumb
E2ERGONOMY: The design of the body of the control conforms perfectly to your hands.
The shape of the control reproduces the asymmetry of the human hand perfectly, increasing the amount of surface that is in contact with the palm of the hand and allowing you to use different gripping positions with your hands and guarantee maximum safety in all riding positions.
The position of lever 3 has been improved in comparison to the mechanical controls, making it easier to use even when your hands are gripping the lower part of the handlebar. This makes it easier to change gears downhill or when you take the lead or suddenly overtake.

water-proof_thumb
WATER PROOF - IP67 compliant: The Campagnolo EPS electronic drivetrain complies with IP67 international standards.

This means that the system is able to protect its electronic components from dust and liquid infiltration.

In order to achieve the IP67 classification, all the electronic components of the EPS system underwent a series of tests, which proved their ability to function perfectly under one meter of water for at least 30 minutes.
